In June 2017, a Gas Safety Information Bulletin was issued to provide updated contact information for recognized certification and inspection bodies operating in Alberta.  The Bulletin also reminds readers that uncertified appliances and equipment must obtain special inspections and approvals prior to installation.

TSSA Issues Updated Propane Code Adoption Document Amendment

Ontario - TSSA Logo 01On April 10, 2017, TSSA published an updated amendment to their Propane Code Adoption Document.  This document adopts the 2015 versions of the B149 codes into regulation and provides additional requirements specific to compliance with theses national codes in Ontario.  This Code Adoption Document (CAD) revokes previously published versions, including the CAD published on February 1, 2017.

BSCA Identifies Requirements for Incident and Hazard Reporting – Gas

BCSA Updates Bulletin on Clearance to Regulator or Over Pressure Relief Devices

British Columbia - BCSAOn February 25, 2017, the British Columbia Safety Authority (BCSA) issued the third revision to Information Bulletin B-G5 051206 4 (Rev. 03) entitled “Clearance to Regulator or Over Pressure Relief Device”.

This revised bulletin clarifies the clearance requirements for a regulator or over pressure relief device as indicated in Table 5.2 of the B149.1 Natural Gas & Propane Installation Code, the code requirements prevail unless otherwise approved.

BCSA Updates Bulletin Regarding Pipe Sizing and Pressure Drop Requirements

British Columbia - BCSAOn February 25, 2017, the British Columbia Safety Authority (BCSA) issued the first revision to Information Bulletin IB-GA 2013-01 (Rev. 01) entitled “Pipe Sizing and Pressure Drop Requirements”.

This revised bulletin clarifies the requirement that when a conflict arises between the manufacturer’s installation instructions and the B149.1 Natural Gas & Propane Installation Code, the code requirements prevail unless otherwise approved.

BCSA Revises Bulletin on Portable Appliance and Fan Effects on Buildings

British Columbia - BCSAOn February 25, 2017, the British Columbia Safety Authority (BCSA) issued the first revision to Information Bulletin IB-GA 2013-02 (Rev. 01) entitled “Portable Appliance and Fan Effects on Buildings”.

This revised bulletin clarifies the potential of carbon monoxide accumulation when using  portable air conditioning units, clothes dryers, or circulating fans that continuously exhaust warm air to the outside without fresh air being brought in to replace it.

British Columbia - BCSAOn February 25, 2017, the British Columbia Safety Authority (BCSA) issued the first revision to Information Bulletin IB-GA 2013-03 (Rev. 01) entitled “Hazardous Location Requirements – Gas Equipment Installations”.

This revised bulletin clarifies what must be done a gas appliance not certified for a hazardous location has been installed in a hazardous location as defined by the B149.1 and B149.2 codes.

BCSA Updates Requirements for Gas Line Pressure Regulator Sizing
